Providing Geophysical Consulting Services for Archaeological Research in the Central American Region. MEME uses the Geonics, Electromagnetic Conductivity Instrument #38 to explore subsurface conditions in settlement zones and in plazas. Possible target features include stone architecture, plaster floors, trash pits, mining pits and burials, caches and offerings with and without capstones. EM surveys can be successfully conducted at any site in the Central American region with appropriate subsurface conditions. General subsurface conditions found to be highly conducive to EM survey in locating the target features are bedrock overlaid by clay. The time it takes to conduct an EM survey is variable, predominantly dependent upon site accessibility. The average time it takes to conduct an EM survey on two 50m x 50m grids is 6 days. This includes clearing, grid set up and mapping, data collection and processing, preliminary result preparation and minimal ground truth excavation (coring). Data collection alone averages 1-2 days.
